Diet and Exercise. That’s the truth. The only way to ensure continuing weight control and long term health is a coordinated program of Diet and Exercise. In 1948 you could buy spinach that had 158 milligrams of iron per hundred grams. By 1965, the maximum had dropped to 27 milligrams. In 1973 it was averaging 2.2. That means you would have to eat 75 bowls of spinach to get the same amount of iron that one bowl might have given you back in 1948. We have to have cobalt to process vitamin B12. Choosing a weight loss regimen, or diet as it is commonly called, is not easy. The truest statement of all still is "The best diet is the one you stick to!" To be able to "stick to" a diet, you need to feel comfortable, and you need to keep healthy. That is why the under-lying philosophy of the First Coast Diet is:

1. Build a Shade House for under $100 Many of us who live in the sunbelt would not trade the hot sunny days of summer for anything, but unfortunately some of our favorite plants do not have the same idea. Leave them out in the full sun in the heat of the day and you end up with dry wizened foliage. The idea is to build a shade house. When I built mine, I was shattered at the cost of timber. For the uprights one needs at least a 4X4 eight feet long. The cost at your favorite lumber yard, I always use Home Depot, is close to $10.00 each. But here is the trick, every store has a stack of garden timbers, which are rough hewn 4X6’s, and the cost is down near the $2.00 level. Big difference, particularly as you need eight. The only deck quality lumber you will need is two 2X8’s 12ft long. These will create the long beams for the roof of your shade house. The shade is provided by a combination of shade cloth supported on lattice. So your list of materials is: 4 legs, 4X6 garden timbers (8ft) 2 beams, 2X8X12 4 rib struts, 4X6 garden timbers (8ft) 5 Lattice 4X8 Bracing. 4 2X4X8 1 package shade cloth. Begin by laying out the roof. You will need to cut 3” of the four rib struts. (Don’t skip this step otherwise your lattice will not fit.) The two 12ft 2X8 set the overall length of your house, while the shortened struts set the width. Carefully nail the struts to the beams ensuring you keep the 6” edge vertical, and the top flush with the top of the beams, with the distance between them being 4’. Use at least 3 4” nails for each. When you have attached all four rib-struts you should have a rectangle almost exactly 12’X8’. You are now ready to add three of the lattices, which should nail exactly to the beams and the struts. Good! Now turn the whole roof upside down! The four legs nestle easily into the corners, and with the help of a set square can be set exactly vertical. Brace them in both directions before proceeding to the final stage. Attach the last two remaining lattice to the ends. (This can be omitted if you want to access your shade house from all directions, but these sides serve well as hanging spots for plants such as orchids.) Now you are set for the final stage. Get on the phone and invite your three strongest friends to a shade house party. (Costs not included in the estimate!) When you have your guests softened up proceed to upend the shade house and set it exactly where you want it. Don’t worry about tying it down unless you are in a hurricane zone, it wont move! Spread the shade cloth at your leisure (Attach with a staple gun), move in your sensitive plants, your small picnic table, a couple of nice Adirondack chairs and you have an extension to your living area that will keep your plants alive, and their owner relaxed for many years to come. In a future article we will discuss a mister system to automatically irrigate your favorite specimens! Enjoy! A great idea for Mothers day: A special herb garden. It’s great for Fathers, brothers sisters and even aunts and Uncles too! I have tried all sorts of ways to grow herbs for the kitchen, and it is a challenge when you don’t have a large productive garden to work with. However, I came across a great idea, which I tried myself, and it really does work. It also makes a great gift, something which is personal, and says, “I took some trouble to give something really special.” Way back when you must have seen those pots which look like Grecian urns but have little balcony like apertures on the sides, create an impression of a miniature apartment complex. They were popular for growing strawberries on patios. Well, you will find them at your favorite garden shop, (I always use Home Depot) for around $15.00-20.00. So, here is the thing, also in the same store you will find potted herbs. Get a variety that you know your Mom or other chosen recipient will like, fill the pot with really good potting soil, and plant the herbs all around the pot. To give the pot some visual impact, chose three different colored lettuces for the large opening at the top, put mint, and time, both of which spread vigorously, at the lower levels, parsley and basil near the top, and wait. The herbs love the environment, and grow well. If you get going right now, your portable herb garden will be ready to present on Mothers day, and the harvest of fresh flavors will be a constant reminder of a thoughtful giver. For long term care, all herbs need good light, preferably nearly full sun, and do no like to be dry. The long pot needs a really thorough watering at least once a week, and the herbs like to be harvested it encourages new growth of fresh tasty leaves. Mike Anderson http://www.visits4u.cashhosters.com A personal website detailing my attempts to make a successful home business on the Web. Yes, you can save your Amaryllis Bulbs!!!It’s about this time of year when most of the spring bulbs have flowered, and the big question is, “What can I do with my amaryllis bulbs and all the other spring bulbs I have in pots?” While I am going to talk particularly about the beautiful amaryllis, king of the spring bulbs, generally my comments apply to all bulbs including the summer lilies, except with respect to the depth of planting.Yes you can save them and flower them again next year, but it takes a little effort. First if you live in the south where winter frosts never go below -25F. Here you have the option of just planting them out in your herbaceous border. They will die down in time and re-sprout next spring. Just remember to observe the planting instructions below. Assuming your location is not as described, or if you want to keep the bulb in its pot, it can still be done. First check the medium your bulb is in. A lot of the packs that come particularly at Christmas have only peat moss as the planting medium. Great for keeping the bulb an roots moist to generate a flower, but not good for the refurbishing of the bulb for next year. Not enough nutrients. I have to say, I have been lazy any just added a fully balanced fertilizer and sort of gown the bulb hydroponic style, but that is not the best way. Get some good potting soil and repot your bulb being careful to ensure the top quarter of the bulb protrudes from the soil. Keep the pot in a medium to full sun position, and water well twice a week. Do not cut back the leaves, but do cut off the old flower. The leaves are the food generators. The nutrition for the new flower is made in the leaves and stored in the bulb, so let the leaves grow until they begin to wilt naturally in the fall. Only then cut back the leaves, let the bulb dry out completely, and store in a cool dark place till after the winter. Next spring your bulb will reawaken and flower again, perhaps with not the magnificence of the store bought version, but with a wealth of satisfaction that you have saved a beautiful plant to continue to brighten our world!! Many people today simply do not understand that Success can be obtained in life, whether MLM or any other entrepreneurial enterprise. This is" drawing a line in the sand, " and saying "Enough is Enough!" Negative thinking will only produce a negative life, and that is NOT what you want for your future and life. Declare today that you WILL Succeed and nothing or no one will stop you. PERIOD. MLM Success Declaration of Independence ~ for Network Marketing ~ When, in the course of human events in MLM and Network Marketing, it becomes necessary for a person to dissolve the stifling and limiting bonds and chains which have connected them with other people's thinking and limitations, and to assume among the powers of the earth, that God intended all men to be Successful, and that it is their right for existence. It is necessary that others have a decent respect to the opinions of those who think and feel differently and want to create a better life for their family through Network Marketing, and requires that they should declare the causes which compel them to take a different path in life, a different thinking during the day, and a different expectation of the future. That is every Network Marketer's right, and privilege. We hold these truths to be obvious, that all men are created for Success in life, and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain Success rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of a future that includes Financial Independence, Freedom, and Options that most will never have in their life. That to secure these rights, non-traditional options for Success are created, deriving their Success Power from those who choose to walk that alternative Path of Victory and Success. That whenever anyone's thinking and limitations becomes destructive to another's future, it is the right of the people to abolish the influence of that negative thinking, and to institute new thoughts and expectations for their life, laying its foundation on such principles as positive and optimistic focus, and CAN DO expectations for Success. But when a long train of abuses in negative thinking and influence occurs, it is the MLM Distributor's right, it is their duty, to throw off such Thinking and Negative Expectations, and to provide new Thinking and Expectations for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of the Network Marketer, and such is now the necessity to alter their former Influence and Negative Associations. The history from other people of their Negative thinking, negative words, and negative influence must come to a stop and must come to a stop NOW. Because of these Limiting, Negative, and Restricting Conditions: I declare that Negatives are no longer accepted as a part, or any part of my thinking or thought process in Network Marketing. It can no longer be tolerated and will be eradicated. I declare that Limitations are for people who want to limit their life, and my life shall never again be limited by any thought, expectation, situation, challenge, group, individual, philosophy, writings, or insight. It is my God given right to succeed in life, and I will walk in that right, and not be left behind. I declare that all things in my MLM business are possible and will not be shaken by other people's misguided, misshapen, mishandled, misinterpreted, misinformed, and mistaken Success Strangling views which I no longer will participate in. I declare that negative people are to be loved, and to be appreciated as for who they are, but no longer listened to, nor taken seriously in the light of the Success Path I have chosen in Network Marketing. I declare that I have the Talent, Strength, Power, Gifting's, Resolve, Thinking, Determination, Personality, Focus, and Actions that will produce and create the Success I seek in MLM. All other differing opinions are wasted words, wishful thinking, whining winds, and worrisome pander. I declare that Success is already a part of my life, and I just need to walk in that Success, not walk in the Struggle that many people have tried to chain me to, in my thinking, expectations, and actions. I choose CHANGE, not their chains. I declare that I was Born for More, and Destined for Greatness. I will have more in my life. More time, more freedom, more income, more happiness, more joy, more security, and more Life in my Living, so help me God. I declare that anything that will try to hinder me, I will go over it, under it, around it, or through it, but I will not be denied in my Network Marketing business. I declare that my Success is assured as the sun rising tomorrow, and I will rise in the light of my New Thinking, Expectations, and Actions to higher levels of Success and Achievement that once thought impossible by others. Impossible is only the opinion of the Improbable crowd. I refuse to stand in that crowd any longer. I declare that my life will start becoming what it CAN BE and WILL BE, not what I was told it should be. Should be's are the limiting chains in my thoughts that I now throw off of my mind and declare FREEDOM from all those former should be's, wanna be's, and never be's. I declare that my Success will be ongoing, and OnFIRE, and NOT just a temporary event that many expect. This Success I shall build will become a Million Dollar Dream that I walk in, and live in. It will not be hindered nor held hostage by the Negative people who do not believe in Millions, but only limiting opinions of the deceived. I declare there is NO ONE, NO THING, NO EVENT, NO EXPERIENCE, NO THOUGHT, NO VIEW, NO PERSPECTIVE, NO PERSON, NO OPINION, NO WORDS, and NO INFLUENCE outside of the Creator Himself, that can deny my Success, and My Life that I have planned in my MLM business. I declare that I will no longer participate in the Minor Thinking of Life, and instead participate in the Major Thoughts that shake worlds, shiver hearts, shape minds, and change lives. I declare that I have a RIGHT to SUCCEED and no one has a RIGHT to STEAL that Path I have chosen to walk, and if anyone attempts to, it will be met with a resistant force so strong, that there is no negative BELIEF that can defeat it, and no limiting Decision that can Conquer it. Minor Mind Thieves will no longer be allowed to steal my Major Dreams, nor future. I declare that from this point forward, I will no longer walk in the Shadows of other people's Limited Thinking and Expectations, and I will no longer walk in the darkness of a life that was meant for Huge Success and Huge Achievement in Network Marketing. I declare that I WILL become totally and radically Financially Independent. I declare that I will become the person that everyone else said I could never become. I declare that I will create such a Radical Success Shift in my life, thinking, and results, that people will stand in awe of the changes, as that is my right and duty for my family. I declare that I will become the most Disciplined person I know, and operate in a manner that attracts Success like a Magnet on Steroids. I declare that I will only have one focus, one FIRE, one force, and one phrase in my Success pursuits: "Whatever it Takes." I declare that I will become the first person in my family and with my friends, to live a life that only others dream of, and then pass this New Success Focus on to them, so they may become the best they can be, and live the life of Most that they want to see. I declare that I will commit to Win at this MLM venture, and Win BIG. My dream will not be detoured, deterred, detained, or destroyed. I will detoxify my mind with Devastating Success and Victory. I declare that the Direction has been decided, the Trail to Be Tried, The Future is Forged with the Fire of Success in Network Marketing. I declare that I will not be Pulled on, Pulled in, Pulled down, or Pulled out of Network Marketing. I declare that I will not Give in, Give way, Give out, or Give up on my Success pursuit. Success is inevitable. I will no longer meander in the Maze of Mediocrity. I will Walk in the Path of Purpose and Power. I declare that I will no longer conform to the Cancer of Can't, and will confirm constantly the Condition of CAN. I declare that I will never let up, set up, give up, or shut up on Success, no matter what others give me as far as their Negative opinions. I declare that I am determined to dare to do till I drop, and continue doing till DONE. I declare that I will Rehearse, not rehash, Refuel, not refill, Retool, not retire, and Remain, not be removed, in my Network Marketing Journey of Success. For these reasons, and by these reasons, I declare today that Success is MINE, and my life is now a Gold Mine waiting to be dug, drilled, and discovered, and exploded to the surface the Greatness that lies within us all placed there by our Creator. Success WILL be a part of my life and future, and I will never again be a part of anything that is less than that, and is a part of that. MLM stands for MOST (in) LIFE (and) MORE. I shall have the MOST in my LIFE, and even MORE in the future. I declare this, decree this, demand this, as I decry, deny, and say Goodbye to anything different. And on this day, my Personal Success Independence is Assured, and Success will be my life from this point forward, so help me God, in MLM and Network Marketing. Signed _______________________________________________________ Date _________________________________________________________ Witness _______________________________________________________ Blessings….Doug Firebaugh Network Marketing Training- MLM Recruiter? MLM Sponsor? MLM Babysitter? MLM Mentor? by Doug Firebaugh There are many Leadership factors involved in building an mlm downline, but none are more frustrating than the roles a Network Marketing Leader can play when recruiting and engaging a new person in this business. We have a tendency to go from one extreme to the other. Ignoring the new person to practically living with them, and everything in between. There are 4 basic "leading" roles that you establish with your new person. As a Network Marketing Leader, you may move through all of these roles with each person you bring into your MLM organization. 1) The Recruiter. 2) The Sponsor. 3) The Baby Sitter. 4) The Mentor. 1) The MLM Recruiter So what exactly IS the difference between a recruiter and a sponsor? INFERNO Secret: I have always taught that recruiting is getting them in, and sponsoring is keeping them in. One is a defined process for getting them signed up the other is growing their greatness in this business. I never really got into a hairsplitting term. Call recruiting what you want, but understand: INFERNO Secret: Network Marketing Recruiting is the Education and Influence Process of getting to the point of when you become their sponsor, and a lot people who recruit folks in this business forget the sponsor part. MLM Recruiting can be simply running the numbers, but that is how the average distributor does it. A Leader recruits to become a great sponsor and to build a long term relationship. Recruiting is the first phase of the MLM Leader Role, and Sponsoring is the second. 2) The MLM Sponsor, is the second. When you have recruited them into your business, now you are their sponsor. INFERNO Secret: There is a reason why the word sponsor and responsibility have the same root word. It is your responsibility to become the Leader they need to create an environment for greatness, and for creating independence in your people. That is Priority One! You must get them trained. A recruiter rarely takes the time for that because recruiters are focused on recruiting, not growing., signing them up, not growing them up. A Leader always grows people first, then the business. INFERNO Secret: Growing people produces the biggest MLM Success harvest in this MLM business! Be a great sponsor and take your new distributors where they want to go, but remember to also take them to the level of success you want them to lead them to. 3) The MLM Babysitter Ahhh! This is the sponsor who does everything for their downline, and completely disables their distributors and cripples their growth. You want to do it all. You don't think anyone can do it as good as you, and so, you do it all. And what happens? INFERNO Secret: Babysitting creates a downline of babies. They never grow into their greatness in this business. They crawl through this business, and eventually out of it. You as a Leader must become a great sponsor, but understand there is a HUGE difference between Sponsoring someone, and Spoon Feeding them. IFERNO Secret: Create a GROWTH environment -- not a Kindergarten. As you mature your people in this business, so matures your mlm business ultimately. 4) The MLM Mentor This is the Pinnacle of the Role you play in the development of your Leaders, but here is a tip: INFERNO Secret: Mentor those who DESERVE it -- not those who DESIRE it. Your ultimate goal as a sponsor is to create a non-stop network marketing success machine. The only way you can do that is to choose 4-5 people in your group to mentor for greatness. Choose people who have really stepped up to the bat and proven they are SERIOUS about their building this mlm business. Make sure they have shown you that they are worthy of you taking them under your wing and paying very special attention to them in Network Marketing. Take them under your wing for a year and solidify and grow them into their greatness. Not by totally building it for them, as there are some things they must learn from experience, but totally supporting them in all phases of their business and growth through training, building, supporting, and BEING THERE for them. And creating an extraordinary relationship that will last a lifetime. INFERNO Secret: Mentoring in MLM is not for the weak-hearted. In Network Marketing,it takes effort, discipline, a lot of caring, and also a ton of giving on your part. You will have trying times, just like in any relationship. But you must understand that if you mentor a select few folks, they can create an enormous network marketing business with you, and will be maximized in this mlm industry. And will stay with you during the tough times. (and there will be some.) The Recruiter grows In-discouragement. The Sponsor grows Independence. The Baby Sitter grows Dependence. The Mentor grows Interdependence. INFERNO Secret: The Power of MLM lies in Interdependence. And, it is true. ALL great Leaders in this industry have mentored a select few special people in their downline to extreme success, in MLM and Network Marketing. Free Keyword Research Tools Are Not As Effective as Wordtracker One of the most unanswered questions online today is, how to perform keyword research that gets free traffic from the search engines. Many SEO experts recommends using one keyword or keyword phrase per page, while others recommends using secondary keywords with your main keyword. My philosophy is simple, you simply use both methods and check to see which method works best. You will also have to draw the line and recognize which is working best and continue with that method. For me, I love to use one keyword phrase for review pages and for content pages I use secondary keywords with my main keyword, making the theme of that page much more search engine friendly. Our job is to please the spiders as well as our visitors. My advice for newcomers is to build our first page using only a free tool such as Good Keywords. I did the same with my first site, which ranked very highly for my chosen keyword phrases, due to the fact that the competition wasn't very high and I also didn't use the highly targeted keywords found in the search results. Now, I must admit that I wanted to take my keyword research to higher heights and even discover a niche of my own with very little competition, and that is where free keyword research tools fails. They don't supply enough data for you to analyze if your keywords are actually worth while or highly competitive. That is where, wordtracker and KRA comes into play. Wordtracker is the number one keyword research tool online, has been for many years and still is. Those who generate five figure monthly commission checks with affiliate programs knows the importance of wordtracker and just can't live without it. KRA, is a tool by SEO expert Andy Williams that you can use to filter out secondary keywords and related phrases. If your into optimizing your pages for better search engines result, then I highly recommend you get yourself a copy. You can reap the benefits of online keyword research by using these tools, and stop fiddling around with free tools. Free tools are for beginners who are testing the waters. It is now time for you to join the rank of professional marketers and stop hoping for success. The best feeling you can get from your online marketing is when you make that first sale, and it doesn't matter how big it is. Stop targeting the wrong keywords and start building much more profitable content pages that only the smart marketers are targeting. My final words: If a keyword research tool is so good, then why would you create a tool with an import possibility for wordtracker data? About the author: Alexander Marlin, Ebenezer St. Maarten A.N. Has been actively marketing on the Internet for over 3 years. One of his many http://how-to-build-website.com/keyword-research.html"> keyword research websites can be found at http://how-to-build-website.com/keyword-research.html How To Stop Morning Breath FACT: Just about EVERYONE has morning breath to one degree or another. STATISTICS ON MORNING BREATH, WHERE DO YOU FIT? Approximately 35% of the world's population has a chronic, noticeable breath condition which usually leads them to seek help from a professional. This group of people have bad breath concerns 24 hours a day, including food odors, taste disorders, dry mouth, and of course morning breath. Another 35% are considered "borderline" meaning that their breath seems fresh throughout the day, but they can easily reach "chronic" levels if they eat certain foods (dairy, alcohol, sugars), after taking medication (antihistamines, antidepressants, high blood pressure medication), and always when they wake up, in other words, morning breath. The remaining 30% rarely worry about bad breath. The only exceptions are when they eat garlic and onions, or upon wakening (morning breath).... WHAT CAUSES MORNING BREATH? An environment that contributes to morning breath is one that is dry. As we sleep throughout the night, our salivary glands slow down (or for some older people, they shut down completely) because our brain knows we are not eating. This lack of saliva combined with the constant flow of air (for those of us who snore or are mouth breathers) over our palate makes for a very DRY environment on the tongue, within the oral cavity, and in the throat. These dry areas are the breeding grounds of the anaerobic (without oxygen) sulfur producing bacteria that cause bad breath and taste disorders, and thus, when we awake we have morning breath. Saliva is nature's way of protecting us from bad breath because healthy saliva contains high concentrations of oxygen, the natural enemy of anaerobic bacteria. What most people don't know is that morning breath is NOT something you have to live with! The key to stopping morning breath is to find a way to stop the production of those volatile sulfur compounds (VSC's) during the night as you are asleep. One way would be to increase the production of saliva within the back of your throat and mouth during the course of the night. This however is very difficult to do, after all you're asleep! Those of us who are mouth breathers are drying out the back of our throats with each breath we take throughout the night. A better, and easier way, is to stop the production of bad breath sulfur compounds by the bacteria that create morning breath. How do you do this? I recommend using what are called "AktivOxigen tablets" (http://therabreath.com/products.asp?CAT=2). These tablets are small, highly concentrated morning breath eliminators. When dropped into water, they create a POWERFUL, unflavored oral rinse that will destroy the morning breath bacteria on contact. This rinse is also effective because it is a rinse that you can swallow which allows the solution to coat the back of your throat and tonsils. Using the rinse prior to bedtime, allowing the solution to work for the entire night, virtually eliminates morning breath. Dr. Harold Katz is the leading expert on the topic of bad breath. Are you searching for a solution to stop morning breath or bad breath? Grab your FREE copy of his "Bad Breath Bible" by visiting: http://www.TheraBreath.com/web/art/l/breath.asp How To Stay Warm Backpacking Stay warm or die. That's what it comes down to at the extremes. More people die in the wilderness of exposure than from any other cause. Staying warm, of course, also means more comfort, and for backpackers, it can mean going even lighter, without more risk. Staying warm in the wilderness is about proper gear and good skills. Proper gear means clothing and equipment suited to the enviroment you're in. This is a subject in itself, worth studying if you spend much time backpacking. With better materials and designs, the newest clothing and equipment saves lives. It is skills, however, that make the biggest difference. How To Stay Warm - Tips and Skills - Set up camp in the right places. Hilltops are windy and cold, and cold air also fills valleys at night. Level ground somewhere in between, out of the wind, is best. - Wear clothes to bed. Shake and fluff them up to make them insulate better. Some recommend against sleeping in clothes, but I've tried it both ways many times, and it's always warmer with clothes on. - Wear a hat. This may be equal to a pound of insulation in your sleeping bag. A lot of heat is lost through an uncovered head. - Go to bed dry. Stay up until your clothes have dried, or change into dry clothes. On a warm, dry night, however, you can put damp clothes on your sleeping bag to dry them with body heat. You may need warm, dry clothes the next night (Thinking ahead is a great wilderness skill). - Breath into your sleeping bag. Only do this in a dry climate, or if you're sure it's your last night out. You'll get damp, but you should dry quickly from hiking in the morning. - Take a water-bottle full of hot water to bed with you. This is easier and safer than heating rocks and placing them around you. - Make a pine-needle mattress. Dead leaves and dry grass work too. Scatter the leaves in the morning, so they won't smother the plants underneath. I've slept warmly below freezing, with no sleeping bag, in a pile of dry grass collected from a frozen swamp. - You can breath into your sleeping bag if you're really cold. You should only do this in a dry climate, or if you're sure it's your last night out. You'll get damp, but you should dry quickly from hiking in the morning. - Fill a water bottle with hot water, and take it to bed with you. This is easier and safer than heating rocks and placing them around you. - Adjust your clothing as you hike. Remove and add clothes as necessary to stay warm without sweating. Sweat can cause you to lose heat rapidly when you stop. - Stay dry. On a cold day, wet and hot can become hypothermia soon after you stop moving those muscles. On a hot day, however, wear wet clothing to dry it out in preparation for a possibly cold night. - Conserve your energy. It's tough for your body to keep itself warm with no energy reserves. You may also need that energy to gather firewood or hike to the car to escape a blizzard. Finally, you'll make better decisions if you aren't tired, and you'll remember how to stay warm. This is a sampling of wilderness skills and knowledge. There are many more things to learn about how to stay warm. In fact, I've left out one of the most important, because it deserves its own artcle: how to start a fire in any conditions. To pee or not to pee The eternal question of wetsuit urination If it hasn’t happened to you already, it will. You descend to 15 feet, and you’ll feel the sudden urge. You can’t hold it. And there’s no way you can get to a bathroom without spoiling the whole dive. So you consider – if I’m in the water, my urine will just dissipate and dissolve and disappear. Is it OK to whiz in the wetsuit? The simple answer is “yes”. Take a leak. The truth is, there is no health risk to watering the neoprene. Many people do not realize that urine – unlike feces - is sterile, unless you have a urinary tract infection. It contains a lot of dissolved bodily waste (mainly nitrates), but poses no health risk to you. The only symptom of wetsuit whizzing is temporary warmth in your vicinity. But beware, if your urine is dark (a sign that it is probably strongly odorous as well), you might get a reaction from other divers, especially if they happen to swim through your “yellowish cloud of warmth.” As a frequent diver, your best strategy for dealing with this common situation is counterintuitive: drink more water. A hydrated diver can urinate in their wetsuit and their urine will not be dark or smelly. You have surely noticed the difference between your morning pee and your pee after (or during) a long night of drinking. Dehydration is very common, yet minimal dehydration is tolerated and goes unnoticed by most people because of the symptoms are fairly mild. If you are properly hydrated, your urine is clear and odorless. A practical diver should drink plenty of fluids the night before and the morning of a dive, to ensure adequate hydration. You may hear divers joke about “warming the wetsuit”. The warmth offered by wetsuit irrigation is comfortable, but temporary. Yes, when you pee you will feel warm initially, but in the end it will actually lower your overall body temperature. You might notice that even though you relieved yourself before the dive, you need to go again when you get down to 20 feet. Why do you need to pee again? You may be experiencing a phenomenon called immersion duiresis: as a response to an increase in pressure, your body feels compressed and your kidneys start to produce urine. Since you already rinse your wetsuit after each dive, you don’t need to be concerned about odor from your underwater urine. An unrinsed wetsuit develops its lovely stink from algae and crud in the water, not from your urine. Tinkle away!

4 Steps to Sure-Fire Basketball Free Throws NBA Finals, Game 7...Your team is down one point...One second left... A foul and two free throws coming... Who do you want at the charity stripe? Of course, we’d like to have a Reggie Miller or a Larry Bird or even better Michael Jordan at the line to sink those crucial shots. Chances are, though, they’re not on your team. So now what? It’s up to you! So how do you build the skill and confidence needed to win the big games at the charity stripe? 4 simple steps: Ritualize - Visualize - Optimize - Capitalize. Free throws are an important part of your game. How many times have we seen games come down to the final seconds and either be won or lost at the free throw line? All the time! So learn these 4 timeless secrets and join the ranks of John Stockton and become a Great free throw shooter. 1. Ritualize Ritualize means you create a specific repeating pattern of behavior prior to performance, a regular pre-task routine, which sharpens your focus, concentration and attention. Reggie Miller would step up to the line holding the ball on his hip with his left hand and place his feet about 12-14 inches apart with his right foot slightly forward. He then would raise his arm straight up towards the basket with his hand bent as if he had just released the ball. Then he would take three consecutive dribbles, sit back into a slight crouch and let if fly. Every free throw was exactly the same. Karl Malone could be seen mouthing something to himself (We have no idea what he was saying) right before he shot the ball. Whatever ritual you develop for yourself, know that it’s the most effective device for delivering yourself into the mindset you must be in to sink every free throw. "Repetition brings familiarity, and familiarity is the opposite of the unknown." - Steven Levenkron 2. Visualize Visualize means mentally rehearsing or "seeing" in your mind what you intend to do before you do it. When you visualize perfect form and a flawless shot that draws nothing but the bottom of the net, it becomes exponentially more likely to happen. You’ve heard the saying, "What you see is what you get", haven’t you? Focus on the process and see perfection. You’ll find that visualization is a powerful tool. "I see a mental movie before I hit every shot." - Jack Nicklaus 3. Optimize Optimize means allowing yourself to trust in yourself and your capabilities, to have the self-confidence to pull the ripcord, knowing the parachute will open. Simply put don’t hesitate! Delay does damage. Nike said it best with their million dollar slogan: "Just Do It!" This is when shooting free throws just becomes automatic. "You must seek to have control and then act with abandon!" - Anonymous 4. Capitalize Capitalize means celebrate your success as well as the success of your teammates. Pat yourself on the back with each success at the line. When you make your free throws savor the success, nourish it, grow it, use it - capitalize on it. Allow it to build your confidence in other aspects of your game - defense, offense or whatever. Let this positive energy ooze out all over you and your team. "What I do best is share my enthusiasm." - Bill Gates With these easy-to-follow principles you can become the elite free throw shooter of your team. Actually, you can apply these principles to every part of your game. Whatever you do, keep on shooting! Matt & Dave run How to become a successful freelance translator Written by Fester Leenstra After completing their translation training programmes at higher professional education or university level, many students can’t wait to set up as a freelance translator. However, gaining a foothold as a freelancer in a very competitive translation market may turn out to be a pretty complicated business. Translation agencies are not usually keen on contracting inexperienced translators, business clients are difficult to find without commercial tools, and the tax authorities won’t just accept anyone as a self-employed person. So what do you need to do to set up shop as a successful freelance translator? Translation agencies Most translation agencies are wary of admitting new freelancers into their networks. After all, it takes a while before it really becomes clear whether a freelancer can live up to their expectations: does he/she stick to agreed deadlines, offer a consistent level of quality, consult relevant reference resources, deal effectively with various registers and specialisations (commercial, technical, medical, financial, IT, etc.)? Many translation agencies begin with a ‘trial period’ in which they closely monitor the work submitted by new freelance translators. To reduce the risk of a fiasco – and avoid the associated costs – translation agencies normally only accept applications from freelance translators who have had at least two or three years’ fulltime experience in the translation business. Business clients In their attempts to introduce themselves directly to companies, freelancers usually find it difficult to gain access to the people that matter and, once they are there, to secure orders. Companies tend to prefer outsourcing translation services to partners that are able to offer comprehensive solutions. They look for agencies that can fill their translation needs in a range of different languages, are always available, can take on specialised texts and have the procedures in place to ensure that all deadlines are met. In view of their need for continuity, capacity and diversity it is hardly surprising that many companies select an all-round translation agency rather than individual freelancers. An agency may be more expensive than a freelancer, but the additional service and quality guarantees justify the extra investment. Tips to achieve success as a freelance translator What steps will you need to take after graduation to develop into a successful freelance translator? 1. After completing your studies, it’s best not to present yourself on the market straightaway as a freelance translator, but first to find employment at an all-round translation firm and spend a couple of years there to gain the necessary practical experience. As a salaried employee your income will be less compared to what you might potentially earn in a freelance capacity, but don’t forget that without experience you’re never going to be successful in the first place. In many cases, you will be assigned to a senior translator who revises your translations, monitors your progress, and makes you aware of your strengths and weaknesses. This will enable you to acquire the skills and baggage you need on your way to becoming a professional translator, and will give you the opportunity to experiment with various types of texts and disciplines. 2. If you can’t find a position in paid employment, try to find a post as an (unpaid) trainee. A translation agency may not have the capacity or resources to take on new staff, but it may still be able to offer you an excellent training post to help you gain practical experience in a commercial environment. A traineeship may serve as an effective springboard for a career in the translation business, perhaps even within the same agency that offered the traineeship. 3. After having whetted your skills at a translation agency for a number of years, you may decide that the time has come for you to find your own clients. Ideally, you should move on to a part-time contract so that you have enough time to recruit clients and work for them, and enough money to live on. It is important to make clear arrangements with your boss at this stage, to avoid a conflict of interests. The best strategy is to send your personal details and CVs to a selected group of professional translation firms and translation departments within companies and governmental institutions, explicitly referring to your work experience. Don’t forget to highlight your willingness to do a free test translation. 4. Make sure to register as a self-employed person with the relevant tax authorities and seek their advice if necessary. 5. Once you have managed to find enough freelance work to keep yourself busy for around 20 hours a week, you might consider terminating your employment contract and devoting the extra time to attracting new business. In 20 hours most experienced freelance translators tend to earn around as much as a full-time translator in salaried employment. These are obviously very general guidelines, and your personal career may evolve along quite different lines depending on your preferences, skills and personal conditions. Whatever your circumstances, however, you will find that experience and a certain amount of business acumen are the things that matter most in a successful freelance career. Clutches, oversized handbags and shoulder bags will suit you fantastically, but the size of the bag needs to be considered. Oversized, large bags are going to look best on you, whereas smaller ones are going to make you look even taller than you already are. If you want to purchase a smaller handbag, make sure it fits snugly under your shoulders. Short and Plump Shorter girls need to pay very careful attention to the types of handbags they choose. Smaller bags tend to look best since larger ones will overpower you and make you look even shorter. Shorter purses (especially those which fit tightly against your body) will create height and make you look taller than you really are. Curvy If you’re lucky enough to have an hourglass figure you will want to accentuate your waistline. In order to do this, you will need to find a bag which hits just above the waist. This style and length is going to be most flattering. Medium sized bags work best to enhance your already gorgeous body type. Plus Size If you’re plus size you will definitely want to stay away from small bags, which tend to make you look bigger than you are. Bags with short straps should also be avoided. Choose your handbags according to how you feel that day and what you think looks best on you. One handbag is never enough, so make sure you have a number to choose from. Ladder Safety Tips One of the many tools that home owners use regularly is a ladder. Whether you need to change the porch light bulb, clean the gutters or put something in the top of the closet. You may need a ladder to get the job done! While ladders seem harmless enough and they are useful tools, accidents can still happen if you don’t follow some simple safety tips. You may be shocked to hear that each year; more than 400,000 people are injured from a ladder accident and end up in the emergency room or doctor’s office. Some injuries are as minor as cuts and scrapes while other injuries have resulted in broken bones or worse. Below we are going to share some safety tips with you to ensure that you are properly using your ladder to get your chores done! 1. Before using the ladder, inspect it and make sure all the screws and side rails are in place. Stepping on to a ladder that isn’t secure, can result in you taking a fall which is exactly what we want to avoid! 2. Check the bottom of the ladder to make sure there isn’t any dirt, paint or liquid that has accumulated and will result in the ladder not being sturdy. For your safety, try to use ladders with non skid spurs – this helps the ladder to stay in place and prevent you from sliding. 3. Make sure to properly set up your ladder before climbing on. The ladder should be on a firm, level surface – never place a ladder on a surface that is uneven. Once you are certain the ladder is secure and level then make sure to lock the side rails to better secure the ladder. 4. Always position your ladder as close to the work area as you can. Do not overreach or stretch to the side, this could result in a fall if you lose your balance. It might take a little longer to finish your task if you keep getting off the ladder to reposition it but its best for your safety. 5. Never move the ladder with anything on top such as a hammer, paint can or the like. It won’t feel too good to have a can of paint end up hitting you in the head – any objects for that matter! 6. Don’t be lazy and pull out the step ladder if you will need the bigger ladder! Stretching and overreaching is one of the most common ways that people get hurt when using a ladder. With a bigger ladder you also have more bracing and you can lean up against it while working. 7. Most importantly always climb and descend the ladder facing it and holding on with both hands whenever possible. Also be sure to take one step at a time, if you miss a step that can end up with you falling from the ladder. By following these few safety tips you will be able to avoid any unnecessary accidents or trips the emergency room. I know these tips sound like common sense but I see people make these simple mistakes daily for lack of thinking while working on something and trying to hurriedly finish. on the Net" A Cuba Vacation Taking time out from the everyday stresses and strains of life to visit an exotic place is something that everyone looks forward to. Cuba, with its notoriety brought upon by its government and the clamp down of the American government on its export and tourism, is a country known more for its cigar and its leader, rather than as a vacation destination. Despite this, every year more and more tourists from Canada and Europe are flocking to Cuba, enthralled by its natural beauty and its passionate and welcoming people. Tourism in Cuba is currently at an all time high. Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands and is inhabited by people with a mixed race of Caribbean Indian, African and Spanish heritage. It has a contrasting landscape ranging from beautiful and mesmerizing beaches to sprawling and craggy mountain ranges. Limestone Mountains loom over the fields of tobacco, utilised for their famed cigars, providing a stunning scenic view. The natural beauty of Cuba and its history has shaped the country to what it is today. This is one Caribbean island that has been left unspoiled by technology and modern day living. Like many of the Caribbean islands, Cuba’s main source of tourism is the beach industry. The country is blessed with hundreds of miles of sprawling sandy beaches, with fine white sand and clear blue water. Tourists visiting Cuba have a multitude of choices for the location of their beach vacation. The major resorts of Varadero and Cayo Largo are the most renowned and here you’ll find many 5 star all inclusive resorts. Despite this, there are also plenty of smaller, quieter beach resorts where you can truly get away from it all. Aside from stunning beaches, Cuba also offers plenty of rustic towns and cities full of rich culture and heritage. A vacation to Cuba isn’t complete without visiting at least one of the Cuban towns or cities and meeting the local Cuban people. In the north-west of the country you’ll find the capital city, Havana - the hub of everything that is Cuban. When you stroll around the city you’ll feel the essence of the Cuban past - a rich legacy emanating from the Spanish colonial architecture that beholds the city. Parts of the city resemble the set of an old movie, reminiscent of a bygone era, with old American cars bustling by. A lot of work has been done in the past decade to restore old Havana, a UNESCO world heritage site, but much of the city has been left untouched and hundreds of crumbling buildings collapse each month. Havana also has its fair share of museums, including the Museum of the Revolution, the Havana Club Museum of Rum, the Cigar Museum, the Ernest Hemingway Museum and the National Museum of Fine Arts. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba and is located on the eastern end of the island. It has a beautiful setting at the foot of the Sierra Maestra Mountains and overlooks a magnificent bay. Unlike the other towns and cities in Cuba, Santiago de Cuba has a very Caribbean feel to it. This is as a result of the influence of the Haitian planters who settled here in the 19th century. Trinidad, located in the heart of Cuba is one of the original towns and was founded in 1514. The city is filled with cobbled streets and old buildings with tiled roofs and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. It’s a very pleasant city to spend a day or two, with many museums, churches and Plazas. An ideal way to spend your vacation is to take a few days to do some sightseeing in Havana or one of Cuba’s other cities and then follow that up with a relaxing week’s stay in one of the luxurious all inclusive resorts by the beach. Suzanne is the webmaster of http://www.suzannestravels.com You can read about her recent vacation to Cuba in her Cuba Blog http://www.suzannestravels.com/cuba Here you’ll find information and reviews of her stay in a Guardelavaca resort and her visits to Holguin and Havana.
